Coming Home

Coming Home (with the Flowering Women)

The Flowering Women -- Lia Falls, Maria Genne', Debra Lach, Barbara McAfee and Teresa Riley-Baecker -- have been meeting together in circle for several years to tell stories, make beauty, laugh, cry, and heal. We are women who have lived many things: mothering, careers, artistic creation, marriage, divorce, health challenges, world travel, and more miracles than we can name.

Singing has become a deep joy for us, one we began sharing with other members of our community. Whenever people heard us sing, they'd ask when we were going to record. We started asking ourselves the same question.

We were inspired to make a recording that would be lovely to listen to and would also support other groups in singing together. We found a funder to front the recording costs, chose 50 Lanterns as our beneficiary, and started rehearsing. We recorded all of the songs in one 8-hour day!

The microphones were in a circle with a candle burning in the center.
Our eyes were bright, our hearts pounding with equal measures of nervousness and delight.

Can you hear the love among us?
Can you feel the many joys and sorrows that season our songs?
Care to sing along?
